The reason for this is that your resistances do not matter when you use Energy Shield. When starting out on ladder and playing with low gear, I have started to utilize ES builds when I make the transition from Nightmare to Hell.

The point is not to break immunes but to increase damage with lowering resistance, and in this mechanic more is better, up until -195 cold res (which you will not achieve with mf gear).

I will include some more information on gear progression.Ģ0 Ice Blast: Untimed skill, shoot these between blizzardsĢ0 Ice Bolt: Max this before Glacial Spike as it increases damage on Ice BlastĢ0 Cold Mastery: There is debate on whether going for 17cm with +skills, as you would in a dual tree sorc, but I prefer to max it as you won't have much +skills with leveling gear or low gear. But over the years as my brain matured and my knowledge of the game increased I have spotted some glaring mistakes and room for improvement and I figured I'd write an updated guide for the new ladder reset coming up. During these little relapses I naturally return to D2JSP and every time my heart is warmed to see the guide that I wrote as a young man still in place in the unified strategy and guides sticky, 14 years later. Once every couple of years I get a nostalgia wave and fire up Diablo 2 to kill some time (and monsters), and every time I still use the trusted blizzard sorc build.
